Secretary of State John Kerry announced today that the Obama Administration is calling for 110,000 refugees to be accepted into the US in 2017, an increase from 85,000 refugees resettling here in fiscal year 2016. It represents a 57 percent increase in refugee resettlements since 2015 from Syria, Iraq and other countries hard hit by conflicts.

Clark County will receive more than 2,800 refugees in 2016 and Reno has some 75 refugees from the Congo arriving this year, according to recent reports. Each Refugee will receive $1,125 as an initial cash disbursement from the Federal Government and be eligible for welfare and food stamps. The projected cost for housing, food and healthcare for the 110,000 refugees per year here in the US is well over $5 Billion.
